IPL Photo Facial Q & A

What is an IPL photofacial?

IPL, or intense pulsed light therapy, is a nonsurgical treatment for damage and discoloration in the skin. IPL photofacial technology uses varying wavelengths of light to target specific skin problems, such as age spots or broken blood vessels, on the face, neck, chest, or hands.

The Total Patient Care LLC team is proud to use the Lumenis® with Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT™), which gives providers the ability to control the pulse shape for a more comfortable customized treatment.

What can an IPL photofacial treat?

IPL photofacial technology gently breaks up pigment and repairs damage to restore your skin to its clear, natural state. You may be a good candidate for IPL therapy if you have:

  • Brown spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Unwanted hair
  • Rosacea
  • Redness
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Freckles
  • Sun damage

IPL therapy also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in your skin, which gradually tightens loose skin if you have fine lines and wrinkles.

How do IPL photofacials work?

The Total Patient Care LLC team runs a small, smooth, transparent handpiece over your skin, releasing a broad spectrum of light. Cutoff filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range, which allows the team to adjust the device to target different skin problems.

Once the light penetrates the skin, the tissue absorbs it in one of two ways — through the melanin in pigmented marks or through the blood in vascular lesions. This damages the tissue, triggering your body’s healing response.

To protect your skin against damage, your body gradually eliminates and removes the injured tissue before repairing the damage with new skin cells.

How long until I see results from an IPL photofacial?

Each IPL photofacial takes 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area you want to be treated. The team typically recommends 4-6 treatments, spaced at least three weeks apart, for the best results. You may even see visible results in as little as one treatment.

IPL photofacial treatments deliver fast results with a gentle approach that requires little to no downtime. To schedule an appointment with the team, call Total Patient Care LLC or book a visit online today.
